Little Things

Today was a beautiful day filled with 10/10 normalcy.

I got out of bed at 5:00 in spite of it being Saturday.

I took the dog out before she even had time to ask.

I did my house work with peace and gratitude.

I got to spend five precious hours with my oldest child. We went to four different stores looking for just the right sneakers for him. I watched him run down aisles of shoe departments trying out dozens of different pairs of shoes. I sat on the floor among piles of shoe boxes and watched him look at himself in the mirror. He’s getting so big.

He reached out for my hand as we walked through the stores.

Thank God I did not over plan today.

I was all his.

I’m rarely all his.

We had lunch together at Panera

I sipped my coffee and soaked in the sun and the sounds.

He wiggled a very loose baby tooth between bites of food.

A little trickle of blood colored his bottom lip.

“That’s coming out today,” I said.

“Maybe tomorrow or the day after,” he replied.

As I pulled onto the highway to head home. I heard a surprised little yelp from the backseat.

“It’s out!” he said.  I handed him a napkin from the glove compartment.

“You were right,” he said.

“About what?”

“That it would be today,” he said. “You knew it would be today.”

  1. What a great ending. You capture this day and the scene so well. “I was all his. I’m rarely all his” – says so much. Glad you had a beautiful day.
